Pasanauri is located in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, at the confluence of the White and Black Aragvi rivers. The first mention of Pasanauri dates back to the eighteenth century, when the settlement was called Kisturi. In the first half of the nineteenth century, a station of the Georgian Military Highway was located here. Pasanauri received city status in 1966.
