Palace Street was a small but very important section of old Tiflis: it continued Golovin Avenue (now Rustaveli Avenue) and led to Erivan Square (now Freedom Square).
At one end of the street (closer to Golovin Avenue) were the headquarters of the Caucasian Military District, the neighboring Kavkaz Hotel (which burned down in the 1990s), the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (demolished in 1930), and the Vorontsov Palace (survived to the present day) – from which the street takes its name.
Closer to Erivan Square were the Theater of the Georgian Nobility (destroyed by fire in 1914) and the Tamamshev Caravanserai (burned down in 1874).
