The village of Kobi is located on the northern side of the Caucasus Ridge, at an elevation of 1,970 meters above sea level. In the 19th century, there was a postal station for the Georgian Military Road here. Near Kobi, there are two mineral water springs. The Geographical and Statistical Dictionary of the Russian Empire notes that: “they contain so much gas that a corked bottle of water bursts.” Unfortunately, Kobi has been experiencing a chronic population decline, which began in the early years of the 20th century.
