The Vera Cross is located at an altitude of 2,395 meters above sea level, at the summit of the Jvari Pass, one of the highest passes on the Georgian Military Road. It was erected in 1824 at the initiative of General Alexey Petrovich Yermolov to commemorate the completion of a section of the Georgian Military Road. (The construction of the entire Georgian Military Road was completed in 1863).
