The village of Tsemi is located on the left bank of the Bakurianistskali River, 15 kilometers from Borjomi.
In 1871 this territory became the royal estate of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich Romanov.
From that time on, resort infrastructure began to develop here — by 1901, a narrow-gauge railway connecting Borjomi and Bakuriani had been laid through the village of Tsemi.
The first sanatorium in Tsemi was opened in 1904.
The initiative to establish this sanatorium came from the well-known Georgian doctor and public figure Vakhtang Gambashidze.
