Nuzal village. Church built in tenth century

The Nuzal Chapel is located in the village of the same name on the left bank of the Ardon River. The church is built from roughly hewn stone slabs using lime mortar. Frescoes dating back to the 13th-14th centuries have been preserved in the Nuzal Chapel. On these frescoes, experts have found the signature of the artist—Vola Tliag, that is, Vola from the village of Tli. He inscribed his name under the figure of Saint Eustathius. The chapel also contains a burial, possibly that of Os-Baratara, the last Alanic king. This fact is confirmed by his epitaph, which was left on the wall of the church. Unfortunately, the epitaph has now been lost, but its existence was documented in reliable sources (the works of Vakhushti Bagrationi).
