Maxim Artemovich Ananov, was an Armenian businessman and philantropist who lived at the turn of 19ер and 20th century. Thanks to modern technology, Ananov’s Rioni plantations annually yielded 600-700 thousand liters of wine and 150 thousand bottles of champagne, making him the largest producer of wine in the region. Ananov’s high-quality wines won multiple awards, which made it well-known in Georgia and beyond the Caucasus. Ananov was a known benefactor: his efforts led to the opening of an orphanage and a house for deaf-mutes, and in 1905 his earnings were used to build the 3rd Girls’ Grammar School.
