The Kavkaz Hotel was opened in 1858 on Erivan Square (now Freedom Square) and was considered one of the finest hotels in the city.
The hotel building stood next to the Headquarters of the Caucasian Army.
Its original proprietors were I. Korchilava and N. Sikharulidze.
In 1871, the Armenian oil industrialist Alexander Ivanovich Mantashev (1842–1911), together with his father Hovhannes Mantashev (died in 1877), opened a fabric shop оn the first floor of the hotel.
In 1876, according to a design by the architect Y. Alekseev, the hotel underwent reconstruction.
The Kavkaz Hotel continued to operate until the Revolution of 1917.
The building remained a notable landmark in the historic center for many decades, but unfortunately it was destroyed by fire during the armed conflicts of the 1990s.
