The Donkey Bridge was one of the old wooden crossings over the Kura River in Tiflis at the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century.
It was located in the eastern part of the city, in the Avlabari district, near the present-day Metekhi Bridge and at the foot of Metekhi Hill.
On old maps, it was often marked as the “Bridge at the Donkey Ford” or the “Avchalsky Bridge” (probably because Avchalskaya Street led to it).
In the early XX century, as Tbilisi underwent major reconstruction, the old wooden bridges were gradually replaced with stone ones.
After the construction of the Metekhi Bridge (in the 1870s–1880s), the Donkey Bridge lost its importance and was eventually dismantled.
Later, embankments and urban riverfronts were built in its place.
