Sukhumi. Real school

In 1904, based on a design by architect I. N. Begich, a two-story building was constructed on Konduktorskaya street to house the Sukhumi City Real School (now an architectural monument, located at 24 Basaria Street).

The ceremonial opening of the school took place on September 7, 1904.

At the time of the establishment of the Sukhumi Real School, there were only two educational institutions in the city: the Gorsky School and the Church Parish School.

The school primarily focused on humanities, offering courses in languages, music, drawing, and history.

In 1921, with the advent of Soviet rule, all humanities subjects were removed from the curriculum, and the institution fully transitioned to technical education.

The Sukhumi Real School continues to function as an educational institution to this day — it is now home to the Sukhumi State College.
