The Oriental hotel was designed by architect Alfred Bammé in 1908.
The two-story, U-shaped building was constructed in the Art Nouveau style.
The hotel had 64 comfortable rooms, with prices starting at 1 ruble 25 kopecks.
The ground floor spaces were rented out — there was a first-class restaurant, the first cinema in Sukhumi, Renaissance, and numerous shops.
In 1932, the Oriental Hotel was renamed Tkuarchal hotel.
A fire at the Abkhazia Hotel in 1985 also affected the Tkuarchal Hotel, leading to restoration work on the building from 1986 to 1992.
Since 1988, the building has been recognized as an architectural monument.
