Borjomi is located in central Georgia and has been long renown for its waters with medicinal properties. The city stands on an important crossroads – the ruins of three fortresses that once guarded it can be seen to this day. From the sixteenth to the nineteenth century, Borjomi was owned by the noble Avalishvili family, but lost much of its population due to Ottoman incursion. The city would regain its popularity only at the 1800s.
