Pasanauri is located in the historical region of Mtiuleti, the birthplace of khinkali (now part of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region). According to legend, long ago, a young man was wounded in the neck on the battlefield. Weakened, he could not eat meat, so to help her brother, his sister created a dish made of rolled dough and finely chopped meat with broth inside. This food was easy for the warrior to swallow, and the rich meat broth helped him recover quickly.
Thus, the girl managed to get her brother back on his feet, and khinkali became a hallmark of Georgian cuisine.
