The Nuzal Chapel is located in the eponymous village, situated at an altitude of 1,160 meters above sea level. The construction of the shrine dates back to the 10th-13th centuries. Under the floor of the chapel, a military burial was discovered (presumably of Os-Bagatar, the last Alanic king, who died in 1306). Several frescoes have been preserved on the walls of the Nuzal Chapel, including “Saint George the Victorious” and “Saint Eustathius”. In addition to the frescoes, there was an epitaph text for Os-Bagatar in the Georgian language. Despite the fact that the epitaph itself was lost (according to contemporary documents, it was already lost by 1860), its existence was documented by reliable sources (the writings of Vakhushti Bagrationi, written in the 18th century).
