Maradidi

Maradidi is a small settlement in Adjara, located on the Chorokhi River. When the river was navigable, trading ships traveled along it to Artvin (a city in the northeastern part of Turkey) and Batumi. River cargo transportation turned Maradidi into a major shipbuilding center—according to chronicles, twenty shipyards operated in Maradidi and its surroundings. With the construction of the road in the early 20th century, river navigation initially declined and later ceased altogether.
