The barracks of the 4th Battalion were located at the entrance to Manglisi from the Tiflis side, on Alexandrovskaya street.
Until the end of the XIX century, the site was occupied by a lazaret (military hospital) built prior to the Crimean War (1853–1856).
By the end of the century, the hospital was deemed dilapidated and demolished, and new barracks were constructed on the cleared site.
The barracks of the 4th Battalion were built in accordance with all prevailing sanitary and hygienic standards and were considered one of the finest government-owned buildings in Manglisi.
With a high degree of probability, they housed soldiers of the 13th Leib Grenadier Erivan Regiment, as this unit had been stationed in Manglisi since 1823, the church of the Erivan Regiment was also located there.
During the Soviet period, the barracks continued to be used for their original purpose: until the 1960s, a training unit of the Red Army was stationed in Manglisi.
After the demilitarization of the settlement in the 1980s, most military facilities began to fall into disrepair.
The same fate befell the barracks of the 1st Battalion, which were located on the opposite side of the parade ground.
