Makhinjauri

Makhinjauri is a Black Sea climate resort located 5 kilometers north of Batumi, it is renowned for its sulfur springs, which have been known since the early XX century.

10 kilometers north of the town, the remains of a Byzantine fortress built by order of Emperor Justinian in the 6th century have been preserved.

Near Makhinjauri, the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Gonio (dating back to approximately the 2nd century AD) have also been preserved.
