Lezginka dance

The name Lezginka comes from the Lezgins, a Caucasian people, although the dance itself is widespread among many peoples of the Caucasus — Chechens, Ingush, Avars, Kabardians, Ossetians, Abkhazians, Georgians, and Armenians.

The music for the Lezginka is usually performed on traditional instruments: the zurna (a wind instrument with a piercing sound), the drum (dol), the balalaika or violin, and sometimes – the accordion.

The origins of the Lezginka go back to ancient times.

It was originally performed to celebrate victories, weddings, and important events, and later became an integral part of all folk festivities in the Caucasus.
