The Dudarovs are an Ossetian princely family.
They lived in the gorges of the Terek River and owned its left bank, from Lars to the point where the river flows out onto the plain.
The princes possessed numerous fortifications.
The Dudarovs’ watchtower in Verkhniy Lars is the only surviving fortification of the village.
In addition to the tower, the Dudarovs owned a castle in the Ingush village of Kharp (at the foot of Table Mountain).
To this day, a damaged watchtower and the remains of a residential tower have survived.
The castle complex was founded in the XVII century.
It was surrounded by a moat and an embankment, on which, judging by the masonry, there once stood a long stone defensive wall.
Near the tower is a two-tiered tomb.
