The Peteres Tsikhe fortress is a centuries-old, partly ruined fort situated atop a steep cliff in the Borjomi Gorge, across from the Romanov Palace in Likani near the town of Borjomi.
It was constructed using large river stones, likely chosen due to their immediate availability, as the fortress overlooks the Kura river.
The complex included a main citadel and a lower courtyard linked to it.
While the exact time of its construction remains unclear, the fortress once belonged to the Avalishvili princely family and served to control access to the gorge.
In XVI century it was seized by the Turks, who turned it into an administrative post and military base.
Remnants of the site include both upper and lower sections, as well as two sizable basins likely used for storing water and grain.
