Borjomi. Likani road

The village of Likani is located 3 kilometers southwest of the center of Borjomi.

One of its main attractions is the palace of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich Romanov, built at the end of the XIX century.

The architectural complex consists of 5 buildings and an extensive park.

The park covers a total area of 45 hectares (16 of which are forest, 3 are gardens).

It features many rare plant species, including the red horse chestnut (Aesculus × carnea) and the Spanish fir (Abies pinsapo). In total, more than 250 species of coniferous and deciduous trees and shrubs grow in the park.

Another notable landmark are the ruins of the Church of the Holy Virgin Mary, dating to the VII–IX centuries.

The remains of a semicircular apse and a nave have survived to this day.

Next to the church still stands a bell tower of rough stone, dating to the XVI century.

An inscription in the ancient Georgian asomtavruli script has been preserved on it, stating that the bell tower was built by the feudal lord Kishvard Avalishvili (whose family owned the Borjomi Gorge until the XIX century) and his wife Tamar, daughter of King Luarsab I of Kartli (1502–1556).
