The palace in Likani was built in 1895 for Grand Duke Nikolai Mikhailovich Romanov on the banks of the Kura river.
The building was constructed in the Moorish style according to a design by Leonty Benois.
To illuminate the estate, the first hydroelectric power station in the Russian Empire was built on the bank of the Kura River in 1898, with a capacity of 300 horsepower.
The palace also houses a number of valuable items that are still on display today.
Among them are a table presented to Alexander I by Emperor Napoleon, an armchair gifted to the Romanovs by the Shah of Iran, and another table made from walnut tree roots by Tsar Peter I himself.
