Borjomi

The first attempt at bottling Borjomi mineral water for commercial production was made back in 1850.

At that time, the pharmacist of the Borjomi military infirmary, Zakharov, bottled 1,300 units of the mineral water and took them to the city for sale.

Four years later, construction began on the first bottling plant in Borjomi. It opened in 1894.

The building of this plant still stands to the left of the entrance to the city park.

Six years after that, new bottling technologies made it possible to export the mineral water abroad for the first time.

In 1904, the production of Borjomi was partially mechanized, which significantly increased output.

While only 1,350 bottles had been shipped from Borjomi in 1854, by 1905, following mechanization, the number had risen to 320,000 bottles, and by 1913 it had surpassed 9 million bottles.

Today, the building houses an exhibition of black-and-white photographs depicting the Borjomi resort at the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century.

The centerpiece of the hall is an architectural structure resembling a fountain with basins — likely a former mineral water spring.
