Bakuriani. View and Kokhta mount

The mountain-climatic resort of Bakuriani is located in the very heart of Georgia, on the border of Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti, in the famous Borjomi Gorge, on the northern slope of the Trialeti range.

The resort is connected to Borjomi by both a regular highway and a unique narrow-gauge railway, built at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries.

The railway has a gauge width of 900 mm (the standard Russian gauge is 1520 mm).

In 7 kilometers away from Bakuriani are the Mitarbi mineral water springs, which are used to treat various forms of gastritis, ulcers, and other gastrointestinal disorders.

Bakuriani is also home to the Botanical Garden of the Georgian Academy of Sciences.

Founded in 1910, the garden now boasts the best collection of alpine flora in Europe.
