The Tskhra Tskaro Pass is located in the western part of the Trialeti Range at an elevation of 2,462 meters above sea level.
The Tskhra-Tskaro Pass became famous for hosting the G. E. Chikovani High-Altitude Laboratory, which operated there from 1968 to 1991.
Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences David Mikhailovich Kotlyarevsky (1931–2004) took part in setting up the laboratory’s equipment.
It so happened that both leading staff members of the cosmic-ray department, who were the main creators, designers, and supervisors of all the work, were unable to participate in the final stage of building the cosmic-ray research installation.
As a result, in 1968 Kotlyarevsky was appointed head of the Tskhra Tskaro Laboratory, and in 1977 he also became head of the Cosmic Ray Research Department.
At the Tskhra Tskaro Laboratory, the world’s largest statistical dataset on strange particles was collected, and its staff gained wide recognition as experts in detection, data processing, and research.
