The Bakuriani railway station was built in 1901 -it is the terminal station on the narrow-gauge railway line between Borjomi and Bakuriani.
The length of the narrow-gauge line is 38 kilometres.
Until the electrification of the tracks in 1966, the railway operated with steam locomotives of the Ъп (“Erp”) series, built in 1914.
These were later replaced by ČS 11 series electric locomotives of Czech manufacture.
All 12 of the ČS 11 electric locomotives ever built were used only on the Borjomi-Bakuriani narrow-gauge railway.
